Wegovy (semaglutide) is a game-changer for weight loss and management, but to get the best results, it’s essential to store the weight loss injection correctly.  Mishandling can impact its effectiveness, so let’s break down the process of how to store wegovy?.

Tip 1: Unboxing Your Wegovy

  • Once you receive your Wegovy, carefully open the package.
  • Inside, you’ll find the Wegovy pen(s), needles, and an instruction leaflet.
  • Take a moment to read the leaflet thoroughly; it contains important information about the medication and its storage.

Tip 2: To be refrigerated

  • Wegovy needs to be kept refrigerated. The ideal temperature range is between 2°C to 8°C.
  • Place the Wegovy pen(s) in the original packaging in the fridge. This helps protect them from light and moisture.
  • Choose a shelf in the fridge where the pens won’t be knocked over or disturbed.

Tip 3: First Use

  • Once you’re ready to use a Wegovy pen for the first time, you can take it out of the fridge.
  • It can be kept at room temperature (up to 30°C) for up to 6 weeks.
  • Mark the date you took it out of the fridge on the pen or its packaging, so you can keep track.

Tip 4: In-Use Wegovy Storage

  • When not in use, keep the pen you are currently using at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat.
  • Make sure the pen cap is on securely to protect the needle.
  • Never store the pen with the needle attached.

Tip 5: Travel

  • If you need to travel for a short period (up to 14 days), you can store your Wegovy at room temperature.
  • Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures.
  • If you’re flying, check with your airline about any restrictions on carrying medication.

Tip 6: Disposal

  • Once a Wegovy pen is empty or has passed its expiry date, dispose of it safely.
  • Your pharmacist or GP can advise you on the best way to dispose of used pens and needles in your area.

Remember:

  • Never freeze Wegovy.
  • Always check the expiry date before use.
  • Don’t use Wegovy if it has been frozen or exposed to extreme temperatures.
  • Don’t use the medication that is cloudy, discoloured, or contains particles.

Conclusion:

Proper storage is key to ensuring the effectiveness of your Wegovy treatment. By following these simple steps, you can keep your medication safe and get the most out of your weight management journey. Remember, your healthcare professional is always there to support you, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
